Besides money, what motivated someone to work hard?
People from every walk of life are always trying to achieve their dreams, but very often, for whatever reason, some give up – maybe for financial reasons, because their goal is unattainable, or because of family commitments. The reason could be they haven’t found a motivation other than the money they hope to earn. Money is not enough of a motivator for some people. They need something more than this, something more valuable; what can motivate people besides money?
- Family. For many people family is more important than anything else. They are concerned with helping their family. This could be by working hard to ensure they keep their present job or to work towards a promotion.
- Dreams. It’s very important to keep your dreams in your mind all the time. Sometimes you forget what you are fighting for, and you give up too soon. Write something inspirational on board to remind yourself of your final goal and look at it every time you have a bad day.
- Appreciation. Surprisingly, some people are very happy when others appreciate their work. They are ready to take on any project, to stay at work late and to give up any vacation if they believe they are appreciated.
- Love. This is love for the work itself. When you love what you do and you consider your office as a happy place, you’ll find energy to do everything that has to be done. You will get great pleasure for a job well done. You’ll want to come up with new ideas and projects even if it means that you will have less time for yourself. Indeed, one of the best things that you can do is to do what you love instead of doing what you are required to do.
